Eric is amazing. He just turned 2 years old on March 6 and he can already read very well with excellent comprehension. He started to read on his own sometime around December, a Dick and Jane book, and since then has been steadily improving. We have been reading with Eric since birth and for a little over a year now we have been keeping a list of all the books that he finishes. Together we have read over 1100 books, most of them several times. We have also started a new list of the books that Eric has read by himself. For many months now Eric has been able to tell you his full name, mommy and my full names, his birthday, and his address. He has known all his colors for longer than I can remember. When he was barely 22 months old he was able to name all of the months and all the days of the week in order and all of the continents and planets. I've heard him count to 30 without making a mistake, and he can count to 100 by 10's. He can count backward from 10 to zero. He can tell the time on a digital clock. He knows the alphabet, all the letter names and sounds and can decode most words. He can make rhymes and can even spell simple words such as cat or dog. He also knows almost every musical instrument or sport that you could think of. He often asks his mommy and me to pretend like we're playing instruments such as a harp, a timpani, a guitar, a saxophone, a trumpet, etc., or his current favorite, a violin. We also end up pretending, at his request, to play such sports as cricket, polo, and racquetball but he still seems to prefer football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. The last couple weeks he has been Sir Eric the knight and we often end up in a friendly sword fight. He truly is an incredible 2 year old and my wife and I are the proudest parents that you could ever imagine.
